Pacific Catch

I keep waiting until a time where we actually eat in at Pacific Catch instead of ordering out to take a good photo and tell you about it, but I've decided enough is enough and it's time to share!  Pacific Catch is by far our favorite take-out place...we order it in at least twice a month, which is saying a lot for us since we prefer to try new places and are rarely repeat customers!

So what's so great about Pacific Catch?  They have fantastically fresh seafood, great flavor combinations and super high-quality ingredients.  I order the same exact thing every time (which again, is crazy for me!)...not because the other bites I've had aren't delicious as well but because I genuinely crave this dish pictured above (it would be even prettier if not in a take-out container!).  So what is it?  It is the Japanese Wasabi Bowl with Poke and half brown rice/half salad (instead of the full white rice order it usually comes with).  So freaking good!  Ridiculously fresh Ahi, avocado, fresh ginger, micro greens, wakame salad, shredded nori all lightly dressed in a soy wasabi sauce.  Don't let the wasabi in the  name fool you, it's not super spicy.  Mix it all together sit back and eat some of the most guilt-free yet satisfying take-out you've ever had!

SavoryGirl confessional here.  We don't always manage to stick to our menus as planned and this last week was one where we kind of failed miserably.  We only managed to make one dish off the menu (the curry which was easy and delish!) simply because it was a super busy weekend with Christian's triathlon (he did fantastic by the way!) and we didn't actually make it to the grocery store until Tuesday.

So, I thought I'd share what we actually ended up eating last week as this week's menu. The only difference is that I substituted in the new recipe we're adding to last week's menu to take the place of the curry for you to try out...the Heirloom Squash Farroto.   For the DIY pasta we honestly just scourged our cupboards and fridge to come up with that dish and it turned out really well!

I know this week's menu isn't super helpful since there's a lot of eating out, but take it as an excuse to get creative on your own...and of course share any success you have!
Shrimp & Artichokes over Parmesan Grits

This is an oldie but a goodie, honestly probably one of the earlier “gourmet” recipes when I was in my early days of cooking.  It was these types of early simple dishes that gave me the confidence in the kitchen and gave my now husband the confidence to propose to this gal who was starting to feed him so well!  This is quick and easy for a weeknight but satisfying meal.
Weekly Menu: August 21-27, 2011

Sunday: Eggplant Putannesca Stacks with Roasted Balsamic Seasonal Veggies
Monday: Disappearing Zucchini Orzo with Shrimp & Salad
Tuesday: Leftovers: Eggplant Putannesca
Wednesday: Leftovers: Orzo
Thursday: In San Diego
Friday: In San Diego
Saturday: In San Diego
The menu is a bit bare bones for those of you using it this week since we're heading down to San Diego to see our good friends Nancy & Adam and our little sister Katrin.  But fear not! There are 8 months of archived menus to dig back through for other ideas for the weekend if you're interested.

Both of the dishes we are making this week are old-time favorites of ours...the first one from our Almost Meatless cookbook (this is the cover recipe) and the second one actually comes from the book Animal Vegetable Miracle...which if you haven't read yet you definitely should!  It's an incredibly inspiring book and it has lots of good recipes throughout...we add grilled shrimp to this one to add a bit of protein, but otherwise it's fantastic.
Pork & Noodle Soup with Shrimp

Christian cooked the Pork Noodle Soup with Shrimp (recipe below) tonight since work ran a bit late for me.  That’s another fabulous thing about having a menu posted on the fridge...if I’m not around Christian can dive right in and at least start cooking for us!

Christian’s a good cook, but can get a bit flustered at times so the fact that he told me that this was an easy recipe means it really is easy which makes it perfect for weeknights.  And we both think that it turned out a restaurant quality soup...so much so that we had a hard time restraining ourselves and saving enough for our leftovers night!
